The objective of the Edmond Fortier Center is to introduce collectors of picture postcards, museums, education and others who likes West Africa in the period 1900 to 1908,    by the photographic work of Edmond Fortier.

Within the great colonial empire (Grand Soudan) of France, the current national borders were no obstacle in his time. The coding of his recordings can - at least because of the many reprints - be considered unclear. At the expos of this site the recordings have been re-arranged as much as possible, both geographically and thematically.

Edmond Fortier was not only a good photographer but also the largest postcard publisher in West Africa.

Postcards were originally provided with accompanying texts in a so-called 2nd print run. These texts have been digitally deleted on this site. In this way the photographer Edmond Fortier introduces you to West African life at the beginning of the 20th century.
